MRC stands for Media Rating Council. You might come across the term MOAT MRC Viewability, GroupM MRC Viewability. Also, you might have heard the news that Facebook has received the MRC accreditation, and Google has followed the MRC guidance to develop its active view technology.

So what is this MRC?

MRC is an organization that develops and maintains the standard measurements which are being used by both buyers and sellers in the advertising industry.

For instance, the standard measurement given by MRC for viewability are following below

  • For Display ads, 50% of the ad’s pixel should be visible to the users in the browsers window for at least 1sec.
  • Similarly, for the video ads, 50% of the ad’s pixel should be visible to the users in the browsers window for at least 2sec.
  • And for display ads having 242,500 pixels or more should meet the criteria like 30% of ad should be visible for at least 1 sec.

If a company wants to get MRC accreditation for their audience insight technology or any other ad tech then they should pass audit processes conducted by MRC organization.
